XTextureExtractor allows users to extract textures for HSI, ND, EICAS, and CDU displays from X-Plane. These textures can then be rendered in separate windows that can be positioned within X-Plane, on external monitors, or on Android devices.
It's important to install the latest 0.4 plugin as the network protocol has been updated from 0.3.
Users can tap on the window displays to cycle through available textures and customize the display for both portrait and landscape modes.
Requirements:
- X-Plane 11 compatibility
- Download the XTextureExtractor plugin from http://waynepiekarski.net/XTextureExtractor and extract it into the Resources/Plugins directory
- Supported aircraft in X-Plane 11
- Open TCP port 52500 in Windows firewall for XTextureExtractor
- Network multicast support for auto-detection
If multicast is not functioning correctly, users have the option to manually configure an X-Plane hostname or IP address by tapping on the connection text.
XTextureExtractor offers a unique solution as most X-Plane 11 aircraft limit the view of these displays to the virtual cockpit. This tool allows users with home cockpit setups and multiple monitors to view these displays in full screen without obstructed views. While some aircraft may provide a pop-up CDU, other displays are usually inaccessible. External apps tend to recreate these displays from scratch but lack precision in matching the aircraft's original design.
The plugin analyzes OpenGL textures to identify where these displays are rendered, rendering them into movable windows that can be placed anywhere. Whether viewed within X-Plane or through external monitors on Windows, users have flexibility in arrangement and placement.
Since X-Plane 11 lacks native SDK support for this functionality, the plugin employs OpenGL calls to approximate the correct texture id and hard codes display coordinates for each supported aircraft. The current testing has been performed with an NVidia GTX 1080 and Windows 10, noting that texture identification may vary on other video cards.
Supported aircraft include standard X-Plane 737, Zibo 738, Flight Factor 757, Flight Factor 767, and Felis Tu-154 models.
To set up the plugin, users need to extract and copy the Plugin-XTextureExtractor-x64-Release directory into the X-Plane 11\Resources\plugins directory.
XTextureExtractor is an open-source tool licensed under GNU Public License v3, available at https://github.com/waynepiekarski/XTextureExtractor.
Please note that this plugin is experimental and may contain bugs. Your feedback is welcomed as we strive to enhance this tool for your home flight simulator systems.
